Our Social Skills Groups are task based as well as psycho-educational groups. We focus on introducing and improving skills. In our Social Skills Groups, we utilize evidence based practices consisting of Psycho-Education, CBT, Positive Psychology, Expressive Arts, and include Social Narratives. We take an 8 step approach to tackle social skills each week.
Selecting a social skill to work on for the week
Psycho-Education on the skill
Model what the skill looks like
Practice the skill
Allow unstructured time for the skill to be used naturally
Reinforce the use of the skill
Encourage use of the skill outside of group
Provide homework for caregivers and group member to utilize the skill
Our overall goal is for members to learn their strengths and make positive changes.

Simply Social
This group is for children between the ages of 10-12 or children in middle school and continues to build upon their strengths and addresses some areas they may need to improve upon. Children in this age group are often faced with the struggle of peer pressure and fitting in, so we discuss these concerns while also addressing active listening skills, team building, communication styles, empathy, perspective taking, problem solving, making and keeping friends, and conflict resolution.
We begin each session with discussing our strengths and wins. Members are encouraged to aid in the decision making process of which social skills to focus on each week. We then begin using psycho-education before discussing how change may be beneficial to us. After each session, members are encouraged to continue practicing their skills outside of the group.

Social Connections
For teenagers or high school students, this group is dedicated to helping teens use their strengths to engage in social interactions appropriately. Teens often struggle with knowing themselves, so we work to discover their core values and use them to figure out how to make friends, hold conversations, and express themselves. We also work on getting along with others, knowing social cues, nonverbal communication, active listening, and empathy. Each teen is given tools to take home to utilize and practice with after sessions.
